Water.
For some so commonplace, and for others so special. To give every
human being access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation
will be a major challenge the coming decades. The water industry
itself is in an era of increased regulation and keener public
interest in water issues. The time is ripe for water research
organisations to join together to face tough issues that cross
national boundaries.
Twelve
leading research organisations across the world saw this compelling
need for a coordinated effort to promote advancement in water
science. They came together in mid-2001 to address that urgency
by establishing an international water research alliance --
the Global Water Research Coalition (GWRC). The Global Water
Research Coalition is dedicated to promoting international cooperation
and collaboration in water-related research.
The
GWRC was officially formed in April 2002 with the signing of
the partnership agreement at the International Water Association
3rd World Water Congress.
