A governing board will oversee the GWRC. Each member organisation will have a seat on this governing board, providing equal and impartial input. Chair of the Board of Directors is Ross Young (Executive Director of WSAA), Rob Renner (Executive Director Water Research Foundation) is the vice-chair and Frans Schulting (Managing Director of the GWRC) is the secretary/treasurer.

The Global Water Research Coalition is affiliated to the International Water Association (IWA) and makes use of IWA expertise and support facilities.
